About this skill
What is the Content Refresh?
The Content Refresh skill is the exact instruction set Okara’s Writer Agent follows when it updates existing content. It captures how the agent spots decay, diagnoses the cause, decides whether to update, consolidate, expand, or prune, and makes the specific changes that recover performance.
It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that both people and AI agents can follow directly. Read it to build a repeatable refresh process, hand it to your team, or let the Writer Agent audit and update your back catalog.
Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill continuously — monitoring your library and refreshing pages as they decay — is part of the Writer Agent.
Example
See it in action
You ask: “This guide used to be our top traffic driver and it’s been sliding for months. Can you fix it?”
Agent does: Diagnosis: intent shifted — the query now rewards a comparison, but your page is still a pure definition, and two competitors added sections you don’t have. Verdict: update in place, don’t rewrite. Specific changes: add a comparison table and two missing subtopics, refresh three stats from 2023, fix four dead links, and re-match the intro to the current intent. Keep the URL, update the publish date, and tighten the title. I’d expect recovery within a couple of index cycles — re-check rankings after two weeks.
How it works
From input to fix list
- 1
You point to a URL
Give the Writer Agent a page (or a set of pages) and any traffic or ranking data you have.
- 2
Okara diagnoses the decay
The agent names why the page slipped — stale data, lost intent match, stronger competitors, or missing subtopics.
- 3
It decides the move
Update, consolidate, expand, or prune and redirect — the right call for whether the page can recover.
- 4
You get a refresh plan
Specific, section-by-section changes plus on-page and internal-link updates that keep the URL’s earned equity.
What's included
Everything it checks
Decay detection
Finds pages with declining traffic or rankings and coverage that’s fallen behind.
Cause diagnosis
Names the reason — stale data, lost intent, stronger competitors, broken links — before any edit.
Update-or-prune verdict
Decides whether to update, consolidate, expand, or prune and redirect each page.
Specific change list
Section-by-section edits — data, examples, subtopics, and links — not vague "improve it" notes.
On-page re-optimization
Title, heading, and internal-link updates that re-match current intent.
Equity-preserving refresh
Keeps the existing URL so the page retains the authority it has already earned.
Use cases
When to reach for it
- Recover a page that used to rank and has been sliding.
- Update stale stats, dates, and screenshots that undercut trust.
- Re-match a page to search intent that has shifted.
- Consolidate overlapping posts into one stronger page.
- Compound a large back catalog instead of only writing new content.
