About this skill

What is the Headline Writing?

The Headline Writing skill is the exact instruction set Okara’s Writer Agent follows when it writes headlines. It captures how the agent clarifies the placement, states the promise plainly, works proven angles, and generates a spread of variants to test rather than a single guess.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that both people and AI agents can follow directly. Read it to understand what makes a headline convert, hand it to your team, or let the Writer Agent generate and sharpen headlines across your titles, subject lines, and ads.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill continuously — generating and testing headline variants across your content and campaigns — is part of the Writer Agent.

Example

See it in action

You ask: My post "Tips for remote onboarding" gets no clicks. Give me better headlines.

Agent does: The current title is vague and buries the payoff. Here are eight variants across angles — Benefit: "Remote Onboarding That Gets New Hires Productive in Week One." List: "9 Remote Onboarding Tactics That Cut Ramp Time in Half." Question: "Why Do Remote Hires Take So Long to Ramp — and How Do You Fix It?" Contrarian: "Most Remote Onboarding Fails in the First 48 Hours. Here’s the Fix." All under 60 characters where it’s an SEO title, keyword front-loaded. My pick is the list variant for CTR; I’d A/B it against the benefit one.

How it works

From input to fix list

  1. 1

You give the topic and placement

Tell the Writer Agent the piece or topic and where the headline runs — SEO title, email, ad, or social.

  2. 2

    Okara states the promise

The agent nails the core benefit in plain words, then decides the clarity-versus-curiosity balance for the placement.

  3. 3

    It works the angles

Variants generated across proven angles — benefit, how-to, list, question, contrarian, and specificity — then sharpened.

  4. 4

    You get a testable spread

A ranked set labeled by angle, within length limits, with a recommended pick and A/B pairs to test.

What's included

Everything it checks

  • Angle coverage

Generates across benefit, how-to, list, question, contrarian, and specificity angles.

  • Placement-aware writing

Tunes clarity versus curiosity for SEO titles, subject lines, ads, and social hooks.

  • Specificity sharpening

Adds numbers, outcomes, and timeframes and strips hype so headlines earn belief.

  • Constraint checking

Respects length limits and front-loads the keyword for SEO placements.

  • Variant generation

Produces a spread of options to test, not a single line to hope on.

  • A/B recommendations

Flags a recommended pick and the pairs worth testing against each other.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Fix a strong post that’s under-read because of a weak title.
  • Write email subject lines that lift open rates.
  • Generate ad headlines that fit platform limits and pull clicks.
  • Produce variants to A/B test instead of guessing one line.
  • Craft social hooks that stop the scroll.
