About this skill

What is the How-To Guide?

The How-To Guide skill is the exact instruction set Okara’s Writer Agent follows when it writes step-by-step content. It captures how the agent defines the outcome, sets prerequisites, sequences testable steps, and adds troubleshooting — so a reader can complete the task without getting stuck.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that both people and AI agents can follow directly. Read it to understand what makes instructions actually work, hand it to your docs or support team, or let the Writer Agent produce how-to content against your tasks.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill continuously to produce guides, tutorials, and help content is part of the Writer Agent.

Example

See it in action

You ask: Write a how-to guide for connecting our app to Slack for a non-technical admin.

Agent does: Outcome first: "By the end you’ll have real-time alerts posting to a Slack channel." Prerequisites: admin access to both tools, 10 minutes. Then seven numbered steps, one action each — and after every step I state what you should see ("A green Connected badge appears"). I’ve added troubleshooting for the two spots non-technical admins get stuck (permission scopes and the wrong channel), and a final verification step to send a test alert.

How it works

From input to fix list

  1. 1

    You describe the task

Tell the Writer Agent the task, who the reader is, and their starting point and skill level.

  2. 2

    Okara maps the outcome

The agent defines exactly what the reader will achieve and lists the prerequisites before step one.

  3. 3

    It sequences testable steps

Each step is one action with a stated expected result, plus troubleshooting for the spots people get stuck.

  4. 4

    You get a followable guide

A complete how-to with prerequisites, numbered steps, troubleshooting, and a verification step.

What's included

Everything it checks

  • Outcome-first framing

Every guide opens with the exact result the reader will achieve and where they start.

  • Prerequisites upfront

Tools, access, and time listed before step one so readers aren’t stopped halfway.

  • One action per step

Steps are broken down and sequenced in the order the reader actually performs them.

  • Testable results

Each step states what success looks like, so readers confirm progress as they go.

  • Troubleshooting notes

Common errors and edge cases called out at the steps most likely to trip people up.

  • Skill-level aware

Written for the stated audience, never assuming knowledge they don’t have.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Document a setup or configuration process users keep asking about.
  • Turn a repetitive support ticket into a self-serve help article.
  • Write a tutorial that ranks for "how to" queries in your space.
  • Create onboarding steps that get new users to their first win.
  • Produce consistent, followable docs across your product.
