About this skill
What is the Market Research?
The Market Research skill is the instruction set Okara’s Writer Agent uses to turn a vague "understand my market" into a structured, decision-ready brief. It defines what to research — the audience and their real problems, the competitive landscape, and demand signals and trends — and, crucially, how to synthesize it into positioning gaps and clear recommendations rather than a pile of notes.
It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that both people and AI agents can follow directly. Read it to understand the method, adapt it for your market, or let the Writer Agent run the research and hand you the brief.
Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running structured research and turning it into a decision-ready brief is part of the Writer Agent.
Example
See it in action
You ask: “I’m launching a budgeting app for freelancers. Where do I even start with market research?”
Agent does: Let’s structure it into four parts. Audience: who the freelancer is, their real money problem (irregular income, tax surprises), and how they cope today. Competitors: the three or four apps they’d consider, what each is best and worst at, and their pricing. Demand: what people search and complain about around freelance budgeting, and where volume is growing. Then synthesis — I’d map the gaps no competitor owns (say, automatic tax set-aside) into two or three positioning angles you could win. You’d end with a one-page brief, not a research dump. Want me to draft the questions and competitor grid to fill in first?
