# Brand Storytelling

Most companies describe themselves. Very few tell a story. A story has a
protagonist with a problem, a stake in the outcome, and a belief driving the
choices — and that's what people remember and repeat.

About this skill

What is the Brand Storytelling?

The Brand Storytelling skill is the exact approach Okara’s Writer Agent follows to turn a company description into a story people repeat. It makes the customer the protagonist, digs past "we saw a gap in the market" to the actual origin moment, names the stakes and the belief, and anchors everything in one concrete detail that makes the story feel true.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Use it before a raise, a rebrand, or a hiring push — or any time three people on the team tell the company story three different ways.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill — the narrative threaded consistently through your site, decks, bios, and content — is part of the Writer Agent.

A brand story gets tested exactly when it matters most: in a diligence call before a raise, in a reference check before a hire, in a Glassdoor thread a candidate reads before applying. Those are the moments a fabricated or padded origin unravels, and unlike a weak tagline, a broken story doesn’t just underperform — it damages the trust the whole narrative was supposed to build. That’s why this skill insists on the actual origin moment rather than the flattering version, even when flattering is easier to write.

Example

See it in action

You ask: Our about page says we were founded in 2021 to make logistics simpler. That’s all we have.

Agent does: It throws out "saw a gap in the market" and interviews for the actual moment — which turns out to be a founder rebuilding the same broken spreadsheet at 3am for the fourth week running. That spreadsheet becomes the concrete detail the whole story hangs on. Then it recasts the customer as protagonist with the company as guide, names what happens to that customer if nothing changes (the stakes), and extracts the belief that explains your roadmap: that visibility beats optimization, which is why you refuse to build the forecasting module everyone asks for. You get the story at one sentence, one paragraph, and one page, plus a retelling guide so a new hire can repeat it accurately after hearing it once.

How it works

From input to output

  1. 1

    You share the history

Give it the founding story, what the company believes, and who it serves.

  2. 2

    Okara finds the origin moment

The Writer Agent digs past the market-gap framing to the specific frustration that started it.

  3. 3

    It names stakes and belief

You get the tension that makes it a story and the conviction that explains your product decisions.

  4. 4

You get three lengths and a retelling guide

One sentence, one paragraph, one page — plus the version the whole team can tell the same way.

What's included

Everything it covers

  • Real origin moment

Digs out the specific frustration or decision behind the company, not the market-gap version.

  • Customer as protagonist

Casts the company as guide rather than hero, so the story reads as true instead of as an ad.

  • Stakes and tension

Names what happens if the problem goes unsolved — without stakes there is no story.

  • Belief statement

The conviction that explains your pricing, roadmap, and what you refuse to build.

  • Concrete anchor detail

The one specific object or moment that makes the story credible and repeatable.

  • Three lengths

Sentence, paragraph, and page versions that never contradict each other.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Replace an about page that lists founding year and features.
  • Give a fundraise or hiring push a narrative that carries.
  • Get the whole team telling the company story the same way.
  • Anchor a repositioning in something people remember.
  • Turn a founder’s origin story into copy that works across site, deck, and bio.
