About this skill

What is the Listicle?

The Listicle skill is the exact instruction set Okara’s Writer Agent follows when it writes a list article. It captures how the agent sets the premise, curates and orders the items, keeps them parallel, and frames the piece so a list becomes a decision aid.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that both people and AI agents can follow directly. Read it to understand what separates a useful list from a padded one, hand it to your team, or let the Writer Agent produce listicles against your topics.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill continuously to produce scannable, high-performing list articles is part of the Writer Agent.

Listicles earn their keep inside a bigger pattern: content marketing benchmark research has repeatedly found that companies publishing consistently generate meaningfully more organic traffic and leads than competitors who post occasionally, and the list format is one of the most reliably shareable, linkable units in that cadence. A curated, tightly edited nine compounds that advantage post after post; a padded twenty-five just adds volume without adding pull.

Example

See it in action

You ask: Write a listicle on the best project management tools for small teams.

Agent does: The intent is "help me choose", so I’ve made it a curated 9 — not 25 — ordered best-for-use-case rather than a fake ranking. Title: "9 Best Project Management Tools for Small Teams (2026)." Each entry follows the same pattern: what it is, who it’s best for, standout feature, and a pricing note, so they’re easy to compare. I’ve added a comparison table up top and a wrap-up that recommends a pick by team type instead of a generic conclusion.

How it works

From input to output

  1. 1

    You set the list topic

Give the Writer Agent the list premise and what the reader is trying to do — compare, choose, or get ideas.

  2. 2

    Okara curates the items

The agent selects items that earn their place, picks the right count for the intent, and chooses a clear ordering logic.

  3. 3

    It standardizes and frames

Every item gets a parallel structure, and the intro sets criteria while the wrap-up guides the decision.

  4. 4

    You get a scannable article

A numbered listicle with consistent items, optional comparison table, and a title built to earn the click.

What's included

Everything it covers

  • Right-sized lists

Picks a count that matches intent instead of padding to a round number.

  • Ruthless curation

Every item earns its place; weak entries are cut rather than filling space.

  • Parallel item structure

A consistent pattern per item so readers can scan and compare effortlessly.

  • Search-friendly format

Number in the title, jump links, and coverage shaped for list-intent queries.

  • Decision-aid framing

An intro that sets criteria and a wrap-up that helps the reader actually choose.

  • On-brand voice

Items are written in your tone, so the list reads as editorial, not a directory dump.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Rank or curate options for readers trying to choose.
  • Publish a scannable, shareable piece that performs in search and social.
  • Turn a "best tools" or "ways to" query into a decision-ready article.
  • Create a roundup that other sites and AI answers can easily cite.
  • Ship a consistent series of list articles without them feeling templated.
