The skill file
--- name: content-strategy description: Build a content strategy that connects business goals to specific pieces — audience, positioning, pillars, channels, cadence, and the metric each piece is accountable to. owner: Okara Writer Agent --- # Content Strategy Most content programs are a calendar with no argument behind them. A strategy answers a harder question: what do we publish, for whom, to move which number — and what do we deliberately not publish? This skill produces that answer.

About this skill
What is the Content Strategy?
The Content Strategy skill is the exact approach Okara’s Writer Agent follows to decide what a business should publish and why. It starts from the business outcome rather than the channel, defines one primary audience, forces a real position, and reduces the plan to three to five pillars with funnel coverage and a metric each.
It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Use it to document a direction for a new team, to settle competing stakeholder requests, or to replace a calendar that nobody can connect to revenue.
Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the strategy — pillars turned into a real publishing cadence, tracked against the numbers — is part of the Writer Agent.
The stakes here are measurable. Industry benchmark research (Content Marketing Institute-style studies) has repeatedly found that organizations with a documented content strategy generate multiples more leads per dollar than those without one — and that a consistently published, strategy-backed blog outperforms sporadic, undirected publishing by a wide margin. A goal statement and a stop-doing list are what make a strategy documented instead of implied, which is the difference this skill is built to close.
Example
See it in action
You ask: “We publish two blog posts a week and none of it turns into pipeline. Build us a real strategy.”
Agent does: It refuses to start from the blog. First it fixes the goal — qualified demos, with a number — then narrows to one primary audience and the problem they are actively searching to solve. It takes a position your competitors avoid, collapses your scattered topics into four pillars, and immediately finds the gap: you have twenty top-of-funnel explainers and no comparison, pricing, or alternatives pages, which is why traffic never converts. Each pillar gets funnel coverage, a channel, a metric, and an owner — and the deliverable ends with the stop-doing list, because a strategy that drops nothing changes nothing.
Comparison
The skill vs. the alternatives
| Do it yourself | Hire a freelancer or agency | Content Strategy skill (free) | Writer Agent | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Your own time | $500–$5,000+ per project | Free with an Okara account | Included in the AI CMO plan |
| Time to first result | Hours to days, per attempt | Days to weeks, plus revision rounds | Minutes — download and follow it | Same day, runs automatically |
| Consistency over time | Depends on remembering to do it | Only as long as the retainer lasts | One-time; you re-run it yourself | Continuous, on a schedule |
| Who does the work | You, from scratch each time | Someone who has to learn your business first | You (or your agent), following the exact steps | Okara's Writer Agent, end to end |
How it works
From input to output
- 1
You state the business goal
Share the outcome you need — pipeline, signups, retention — plus the product and who buys it.
- 2
Okara defines audience and position
The Writer Agent narrows to one primary reader and the argument only you can credibly make.
- 3
It builds pillars with funnel coverage
You get three to five topic territories, each mapped across top, middle, and bottom of funnel with a metric attached.
- 4
You get a cadence and a stop-doing list
A publishing rhythm matched to real capacity, and an explicit list of what you are dropping.
What's included
Everything it covers
Goal-first framing
Anchors the plan to a business number instead of a traffic target.
Audience definition
One primary reader, their active problem, and where they already look for answers.
Positioning argument
Forces a point of view your competitors can’t or won’t take.
Pillars with funnel coverage
Three to five territories, each covered from top of funnel down to the pages that convert.
Honest cadence
A publishing rhythm matched to the resources you actually have, not the ones you wish you had.
Metrics per pillar
Every territory is accountable to a number, so nothing quietly drifts.
Use cases
When to reach for it
- Connect an existing content program to pipeline instead of traffic.
- Document a content direction for a new team or a new founder.
- Settle competing stakeholder topic requests with a framework.
- Start content from zero without a year of random posts.
- Find the bottom-of-funnel gap that is keeping traffic from converting.
