# Pillar Page

A pillar page is the definitive page for a broad topic. It covers the whole
subject at a useful depth, links out to the cluster pages that go deeper, and
becomes the thing people link to when they cite the topic at all.

About this skill

What is the Pillar Page?

The Pillar Page skill is the exact approach Okara’s Writer Agent follows to build the definitive page for a broad topic. It maps the full cluster before writing a line, covers each subtopic at summary depth, and wires the reciprocal internal links that make a hub page rank for a head term a single article never could.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Use it to consolidate a scattered set of related posts, or to plan a topic you intend to own from scratch.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill — the pillar plus the cluster pages beneath it, published and interlinked — is part of the Writer Agent.

Example

See it in action

You ask: We have fourteen posts about payroll compliance and rank for none of the big terms. Build a pillar page.

Agent does: It maps the cluster first — every subtopic a reader could need — and immediately shows you which of your fourteen posts are actually the same page written three times, plus the five subtopics you have never covered. Then it outlines the hub in reader-question order, drafts each section deep enough to stand alone but short enough to justify clicking through, and produces the link plan: pillar down to every cluster page with specific anchor text, every cluster page back up. It also specifies the citable asset — in this case a state-by-state compliance table — because comprehensiveness alone rarely earns links.

How it works

From input to output

  1. 1

    You name the topic

Share the subject and head term you want to own, plus any existing posts on it.

  2. 2

    Okara maps the cluster

The Writer Agent lists every subtopic, marking what exists, what overlaps, and what is missing.

  3. 3

    It drafts the hub

You get the full pillar page in reader-question order, each subtopic covered at summary depth.

  4. 4

    You wire the links

The agent hands you the reciprocal internal link plan with anchor text, plus the citable asset to build.

What's included

Everything it covers

  • Cluster map

Every subtopic laid out and marked existing, planned, or missing before a word is written.

  • Reader-order outline

H2/H3 structure sequenced the way a reader asks questions, not the way you wrote the posts.

  • Calibrated depth

Each section useful standing alone, incomplete enough to justify the click to the cluster page.

  • Reciprocal link plan

Pillar-to-cluster and cluster-to-pillar links with the anchor text that concentrates authority.

  • Head-term coverage

Answers the head question in the first 100 words so the page can win the broad term.

  • Citable asset

Specifies the table, framework, or dataset inside the page that actually earns backlinks.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Consolidate a scattered set of related posts under one authoritative hub.
  • Compete for a broad head term you currently rank nowhere for.
  • Build a linkable asset that earns backlinks without outreach.
  • Turn a topic map into a content calendar for the next quarter.
  • Find and kill the duplicate posts splitting your topic authority.
