# Proofreading

Proofreading is the final mechanics check, not a rewrite. Its job is to catch
the errors a quick read misses — and to fix them without changing what the copy
means or how it sounds.

About this skill

What is the Proofreading?

The Proofreading skill is the instruction set Okara’s Writer Agent uses to catch the errors that slip past a quick read — grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency — without touching your meaning or voice. It runs systematic passes rather than one nervous scan, flags each issue with a fix and a reason, and preserves your style, so the copy ships clean and still sounds like you.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that both people and AI agents can follow directly. Read it to understand the passes, adapt it to your style rules, or let the Writer Agent proof your copy against them.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Proofing your copy on demand and enforcing your spelling and terminology choices consistently is part of the Writer Agent.

A single preventable typo doesn’t just look sloppy — it recalibrates how a reader weighs everything else on the page, because a mechanical error is one of the few claims a reader can verify instantly, unlike quality or expertise. That’s why this skill runs each pass narrow and mechanical instead of one anxious scan for anything that feels off: a reader who catches one avoidable mistake starts actively hunting for more, and tends to find them, whether or not they’re actually there.

Example

See it in action

You ask: Proofread this: "Their are three reason’s our customer’s love us: speed, price and support."

Agent does: Four fixes. "Their" should be "There" — you’re stating that something exists, not showing possession. "reason’s" and "customer’s" are plurals, not possessives, so drop the apostrophes: "reasons" and "customers." And "price and support" needs a serial comma after "price" to match the list: "speed, price, and support." Corrected: "There are three reasons our customers love us: speed, price, and support." I left your wording and tone untouched. Want me to run the same passes across the full page and return a flagged list?
