The skill file
--- name: tagline description: Write a tagline that survives the competitor swap test — short, specific, true, and impossible to paste onto a rival's homepage. owner: Okara Writer Agent --- # Tagline Generator A tagline has seconds to say what you do and why it's worth caring about. The test is brutal and simple: if you can swap in a competitor's name and the line still works, it isn't a tagline, it's a category description.

About this skill
What is the Tagline?
The Tagline skill is the exact approach Okara’s Writer Agent follows to write the short line at the top of your homepage. It decides first whether the line should explain or resonate, pulls language from what customers actually say, generates thirty candidates, and filters them through the swap test: paste a competitor’s name in front and see whether the line still works.
It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Use it for a launch, a rebrand, or the recurring argument about how to describe the product in one line.
Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill — the tagline plus the subhead beneath it, kept consistent everywhere it appears — is part of the Writer Agent.
Example
See it in action
You ask: “Our homepage says "Modern infrastructure for growing teams." The team likes it. Is it any good?”
Agent does: It runs the swap test in one move: paste any of your four competitors’ names in front and the line reads exactly as well, which means it is a category description rather than a tagline. Then it decides the job — your category is understood, so the line should resonate rather than explain — and pulls candidate language from your support tickets and reviews, where customers describe the outcome in better words than any brainstorm produces. Thirty candidates get written, most discarded, five shortlisted with what each one emphasizes and gives up. The recommendation comes with the subhead underneath it, because the tagline and subhead are the real unit, and with a note on where the line stands alone and where it needs the subhead beside it.
How it works
From input to output
- 1
You describe the product
Share what it does, who it is for, and any competitor lines you are up against.
- 2
Okara picks the job
The Writer Agent decides whether the line should explain or resonate, based on how well your category is understood.
- 3
It writes thirty and filters
Candidates get generated in volume, then cut with the competitor swap test until only the specific ones survive.
- 4
You get a line plus its subhead
One recommendation with reasoning, four alternates, and the clarifying sentence that sits beneath it.
What's included
Everything it covers
Explain vs resonate call
Decides the line’s job up front, because trying to do both produces something that does neither.
Customer language mining
Pulls phrasing from tickets, reviews, and calls — already-validated words beat brainstormed ones.
Competitor swap test
Kills any line that still works with a rival’s name in front of it.
Ruthless compression
Cuts to load-bearing words only, without trading specificity for brevity.
Say-it-aloud check
Catches awkward stress patterns, because taglines are heard as often as read.
Tagline + subhead pair
Writes the clarifying sentence beneath it, since the pair is the real unit on a homepage.
Use cases
When to reach for it
- Replace a homepage line that any competitor could also use.
- Settle the internal argument about how to describe the product.
- Write the line for a launch, rebrand, or repositioning.
- Fix a clever tagline that leaves visitors unsure what you sell.
- Pair an existing tagline with a subhead that carries the clarity.
