# Social Media Trend Analysis

Most brands find a trend two weeks after it peaked and join it badly. This
skill does three things instead: detects movement early, tests whether it's
actually relevant to you, and decides fast — because a trend you join late
costs more than one you skip.

About this skill

What is the Trend Analysis?

The Trend Analysis skill is the exact approach Okara’s Writer Agent follows to decide whether a social trend is worth joining. It watches leading indicators rather than platform trending pages, classifies what it finds as a fad, a trend, or a permanent shift, estimates the remaining window, and tests relevance honestly — including the frequent, correct answer of skipping.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Use it to replace per-trend debate with a repeatable decision, or to stop discovering things two weeks after they peaked.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill continuously — monitored niches, early alerts, and drafted angles inside the window — is part of the Writer Agent.

Arriving two weeks late to a trend isn’t a minor aesthetic miss — it signals to an audience that already follows faster accounts that this brand watches from the sidelines rather than participates. That signal compounds: audiences learn where to look for a topic first, and a brand that consistently shows up after saturation trains its own following to expect leftovers instead of live coverage, which quietly caps how far any future post can reach regardless of how good it is.

Example

See it in action

You ask: There’s a format blowing up in our niche right now. Should we do it?

Agent does: It checks the leading indicators rather than the trending page — search inflection, subreddit chatter, creator adoption in adjacent niches — and finds the format is already three weeks in with saturation approaching. Classification: trend, not shift, roughly ten days of window left. Then the honest relevance test: you have a specific customer dataset that would make your version worth watching, so there is something to contribute rather than just being present. But your real turnaround on video is two weeks, not the one week you assume, so the verdict is join in a text format you can ship today, or skip. It also flags where the format originated, because that context attaches to your brand along with the trend.

How it works

From input to output

  1. 1

    You set the niche

Tell it your niche, audience, platforms, and what your team can realistically ship, and how fast.

  2. 2

    Okara watches leading indicators

The Writer Agent tracks search inflections, community chatter, and adjacent-niche creator adoption — not lagging trending pages.

  3. 3

    It classifies and times

You get fad, trend, or shift, plus an estimate of how much window is left before saturation.

  4. 4

    You get a join-or-skip call

A verdict with the angle only you can take — or a clear recommendation to sit this one out.

What's included

Everything it covers

  • Leading-indicator detection

Watches search inflections and community chatter instead of trending pages, which lag by design.

  • Fad / trend / shift classification

Separates the three so you spend days of effort on days-long things and not the reverse.

  • Window estimate

How long you have before saturation, measured against your real production turnaround.

  • Honest relevance test

Asks whether you can contribute something specific, not whether you could technically post.

  • Angle before format

Decides what you have to say first, then which format carries it.

  • Outcome log

Tracks what you joined and what happened, so your turnaround estimate gets honest over time.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Stop finding out about trends two weeks after they peaked.
  • Replace per-trend team debate with a repeatable decision rule.
  • Ride existing demand instead of trying to create it.
  • Avoid attaching your brand to a trend with an origin you didn’t check.
  • Work out which formats your team can realistically ship inside a window.
