# Buyer Psychology

People don't buy the best option. They buy the option that feels least risky
once they've decided change is necessary at all. This skill maps the forces
around a decision so your marketing addresses the real ones.

About this skill

What is the Buyer Psychology?

The Buyer Psychology skill is the exact approach Okara’s AI CMO follows to work out what is really driving — or blocking — a purchase. It finds the trigger events that make change urgent, takes status quo bias seriously as the strongest force in the room, maps perceived risk role by role, and prices the political capital your internal champion has to spend to advocate for you.

It’s written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Use it when prospects agree with everything and still do not buy, or when deals stall at the same point every time.

Downloading the instructions is free with an Okara account. Running the skill — trigger-aware campaigns, role-specific material, and a maintained champion kit — is part of the Okara AI CMO.

By the time someone reaches out, the decision is largely pre-formed: B2B buyers now complete a large majority of their own research before a salesperson enters the picture — widely cited estimates (commonly cited B2B buying-journey research) put the share at roughly 60–70% or more of the entire journey. That means the trigger, the risk calculus, and the internal politics this skill maps have usually already been worked through privately, long before the first call gives you any chance to influence them.

Example

See it in action

You ask: Prospects tell us we’re clearly better, then renew with the incumbent anyway.

Agent does: It explains the gap: agreement is not motivation, and the status quo has inertia with no advocate but enormous weight. So it maps the forces instead of the features. It finds your real trigger events — a contract renewal window, a new ops hire, an incident — because those are the only moments anyone evaluates anything. It separates the buying committee into user, economic buyer, technical approver, and blocker, each with a different fear, and ranks perceived risks by how often they actually stall deals: not price, but "the team will hate it" and "I will be blamed." It matches proof to fear type, so the security concern gets a SOC 2 report rather than a testimonial. Then it builds the champion kit — the numbers and the one-pager that answer their CFO’s question — because your advocate is spending political capital and your job is to make that cheap. It closes by reframing to the monthly cost of not moving, and shrinking the first commitment.

How it works

From input to output

  1. 1

    You describe the stall

Share who decides, what they use today, and where deals repeatedly stop.

  2. 2

    Okara finds the triggers

The AI CMO identifies the events that make change urgent and how to reach people at that moment.

  3. 3

    It maps risk by role

User, buyer, approver, and blocker each get their question, their fear, and the proof that answers it.

  4. 4

    You arm the champion

A kit that lowers the political cost of advocating for you, plus a loss frame and a smaller first step.

What's included

Everything it covers

  • Trigger events

The moments that make evaluation urgent, and how to be present when they happen.

  • Status quo analysis

What the current way costs and why it persists despite being worse.

  • Perceived risk map

The fears that block deals, ranked — usually ahead of price.

  • Role separation

User, economic buyer, technical approver, and blocker, each with different material.

  • Champion kit

What your internal advocate needs to spend political capital safely.

  • Loss framing

The monthly cost of not changing, which outperforms gain framing roughly two to one.

Use cases

When to reach for it

  • Explain why prospects agree with your pitch and still do not buy.
  • Unstick deals that stall at the same point every time.
  • Give a buying committee role-specific material instead of one deck.
  • Reach buyers at the trigger moment rather than at random.
  • Lower the perceived risk that is costing you more deals than price.
